Tiny ascenseur

9 06 2008

The elevator (ascenseur in French) in our building is so ridiculously small, you’ve gotta see it:

Actually, in that video it looks bigger due to the mirror!  The depth of the elevator is only the width of my shoulders.  The rental agent did warn me though: “imagine the smallest elevator you can…now halve it!”

I wouldn’t like to get trapped in it!

You Tube videos

9 06 2008

I’ve been using the movie feature of my little Canon IXUS and have started putting the videos on YouTube.

For example, here’s the beautiful Sainte Chappelle.

It’s a pity that the crappy YouTube quality means that the breathtaking colours are somewhat lost but at least you get the idea.  :)

I’ll make an effort to record a few interesting videos so keep an eye on my YouTube page.

Au revoir Paris

9 06 2008

Tonight is our last night in Paris; tomorrow we leave for Strasbourg.

I’m a little sad as I’ve loved being in Paris.  I felt very comfortable here, falling for the beauty of the City of Light almost immediately.  And there is so much to see and do.  Here are some of the big-ticket items we’ve seen:

  • Notre Dame de Paris
  • Sainte Chappelle
  • Sacre Coeur
  • Arc de Triomphe
  • Eiffel Tower
  • Musee du Lourve
  • Musee d’Orsay
  • Musee de Arts et Metiers
  • Musee Picasso
  • Musee du Moyen Age (Cluny)
  • Chateau de Versaille
  • Centre Pompidou

A favourite?  Impossible to pick.

That list only scratches the surface of our stay here though.  Fresh croissants for breakfast.  Jogging through some of the gardens here (Jardin des Tuileries, du Luxembourg and des Plants).  Fantastic dinners.  Strolls along the Seine.  Getting lost down some beautiful back street and discovering a deli or shoe shop or band playing…all of these images were etched into my mind by Paris.

Hard to believe we’ve already been here ten days.  Already trying to figure out how I can get back here at some point in the future!

Au revoir Paris!
