Yosemite, Day Two

4 05 2006

We woke to another glorious morning and I joined Dan and Pascale who were meeting some friends for some bouldering. Dan is a mad-keen rock climber. Without gear I asserted the role of team photographer (not that I would have had a chance of even getting off the ground on this boulder!).

Dan, injured, frustrated but gutsy

After playing on the rocks we headed to the stunning Ahwahnee – a luxurious hotel and restaurant – for their famous brunch. A gorgeous structure, the Ahwahnee is a National Landmark. The dining room is massive, able to seat 450 in pure class and damn, the food! Delicious. Rob had his camera so hopefully at some stage he'll let me post some photos.

Post-indulging we decided to go for a drive in the valley and see some easily accessible sights.

The classic Yosemite shot – El Capitan, Bridal Veil falls and Half Dome in the distance. Breathtaking.

Gettin' arty-farty

El Capitan. Stupendously dramatic even in poor light.

And big. With the help of binoculars we spotted a few climbers on the face of El Cap.

I also took a couple of photos that don't really fit in anywhere else…

Cam, Dan's wonder dog!

All in all it was a fantastic weekend – one of the highlights of my stay in California. Big thanks to Rob for organising the trip and to everyone else for being such easy-going, fun company.

I'm hoping to return to the Valley before I head home – in fact I may be going this weekend! As always, I'll try to keep you posted… 🙂
